HBG Big News This Week: January 7-11, 2019

Following is a recap of major news at Hachette Book Group for the week of January 7-11, 2019:

Bestseller news: New to the New York Times bestseller list this week and charting high is Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child’s Verses for the Dead (GCP), #1 on the Combined Print & Ebook Fiction list and #2 on the Print Hardcover Fiction list. HBG has 17 books on the NYT list overall – including six of the top 12 hardcover fiction bestsellers! – and our distribution clients have three books on the list.

PNBA Award: Thor Hanson’s BUZZ (Basic Books) has won a 2019 Pacific Northwest Book Award. This is Hanson’s third book to win.

Major release: Malala Yousafzai was in New York to promote her new book, We Are Displaced: My Journey and Stories from Refugee Girls Around the World (LBYR). The inspiring Nobel Peace Prize winner made appearances on CBS This Morning, ABC’s The View, Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, with additional national coverage in Parade and the New York Times. A highlight of Malala’s visit was a launch event at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Howard Gilman Opera House, which seats over 2,000 people, where she discussed the book with New York Times foreign correspondent Rukmini Callimachi.

Media blitz: Gwyneth Paltrow launched her latest, The Clean Plate: Eat, Reset, Heal (GCP) this week with national appearances on Good Morning America, The Tonight Show, and Live with Kelly and Ryan, and coverage in theHollywood Reporter, E! News, and USA Today. Still to come: appearances on The Rachael Ray Show, Ellen (with Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson guest-hosting), a feature in People magazine, a New York Times Corner Office column, and more.
